Automatic driving licence in Munich: B78 and B197

Driving without a clutch – and with code B197 you’re still allowed to drive manual cars.

B78 or B197 – the difference

Both routes lead to a class B licence, and in both cases you take your test in an automatic car.

  • B78: You may only drive vehicles with automatic transmission. This code (Schlüsselzahl) is printed on your licence.
  • B197: On top of your automatic training, you do at least 10 driving lessons of 45 minutes in a manual car and complete a test drive of at least 15 minutes at the driving school. After that, you may also drive manual cars in Germany and the EU.

Who automatic is right for

With no clutch and no gear changes, you can focus entirely on the traffic. That helps a lot in Munich’s busy city traffic and if you want to get mobile quickly. And with B197 you don’t close any doors – manual hire cars and company cars are still allowed.

Our automatic cars

You learn in a Kia Sportage or a Kia Ceed with automatic transmission. For the manual lessons for B197, you can use our Kia Ceed, Kia Stonic or Kia XCeed with manual transmission. You’ll find all our vehicles on the fleet page.
